A breast ultrasound is a simple and painless exam for one or both breasts. Most often, the breast ultrasound is done to find out if a problem found by a thermography scan, mammogram, or physical exam of the breast may be a cyst filled with fluid or a solid tumor. At EloRose Diagnostic Ultrasound LLC, experienced sonographer Jillian Rogers, RDMS, leads a group of American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) registered technicians in providing high-quality breast ultrasounds at dramatic discounts. Prices are 40-60% lower than anywhere else, and no referral is needed. Call the Eau Claire, Wisconsin, office or book your appointment online now.
When might I need a breast ultrasound?
A breast ultrasound produces images of the breast tissue layers. If you feel a lump in your breast, or something irregular shows up on your mammogram or thermography scan, it is recommended to follow up with an ultrasound. A breast ultrasound can reveal if a lump is fluid-filled or a mass needing more testing.
What can I expect during a breast ultrasound?
Breast ultrasounds are comfortable procedures at EloRose Diagnostic Ultrasound. You will need to expose the breast(s) so the sonographer can smooth on a clear gel over the area of interest, which helps the ultrasound transducer glide over your skin.
The sonographer will apply the transducer to the breast area, pressing gently to deliver the sound waves that create images of your breast tissue. The images appear on a nearby screen as the sonographer captures detailed images in real-time.
At the end of the ultrasound exam, the sonographer removes the gel from your skin, and you are then able to dress. You can return to your normal daily routine.
How should I get ready for a breast ultrasound?
You don’t have to do anything special to prepare your body for a breast ultrasound, but it is important to dress appropriately. EloRose Diagnostic Ultrasound recommends wearing a shirt that is either easy to open or easy to remove during the ultrasound.
